Faskki is a small, island-rooted enterprise producing traditional hot-pressed Virgin Coconut Oil from Kalpeni, one of the coral atolls that make up Lakshadweep, India’s smallest Union Territory. Every stage of the product’s journey — harvesting, extraction, and bottling — happens on the island itself, making Faskki a genuine example of hyper-local, community-anchored production rather than a brand that simply sources raw material from a remote region and processes it elsewhere.

From Coconut to Oil, Entirely on the Island

The coconuts used by Faskki are hand-picked from palms grown in Lakshadweep’s untouched, pesticide-free soil. Rather than relying on chemical solvent extraction — the industrial default for most commercial coconut oil — Faskki uses the traditional hot-pressed method (known locally as Ventha Velichennai), a slower, small-batch process that preserves the oil’s natural aroma, nutrients, and colour. No chemicals, additives, or refining agents are used at any stage. This traditional approach keeps the production footprint low: no large processing plants, no long-distance transport of raw coconuts to mainland factories, and no industrial-scale energy inputs, all of which position Faskki within the broader ethos of eco-products and low-impact food processing that Prakati’s directory looks to surface.

Faskki bottles its virgin coconut oil in four sizes — 100ml, 250ml, 500ml, and 1000ml — positioned for both everyday cooking use and skincare/haircare applications, in keeping with the traditional multi-purpose role coconut oil has long played in island households across Lakshadweep and coastal Kerala. The absence of any synthetic additive means the oil retains the same properties whether used in the kitchen or as a hair and skin treatment, a use case the brand actively promotes rather than treating as an afterthought.

Community & Island Economy

Lakshadweep’s economy has traditionally relied on fisheries and coconut-based livelihoods, including coir-making and copra production, and is only slowly diversifying into tourism and renewable energy.
