Ropuiliani Women Farmer Producer Company Limited (Ropuiliani WFPCL) is a registered farmer-producer organisation headquartered in Aizawl, Mizoram, built entirely around a women-led, organic spice value chain. Incorporated in 2021 and named after Ropuiliani, the first recorded female chief in Mizo history, the company today represents more than 10,000 women farmer shareholders spread across 154 villages in seven districts of the state — one of the largest women-led farmer collectives operating anywhere in India’s Northeast.

What They Grow and Process

Ropuiliani WFPCL works with three signature Mizo crops: Mizo Bird’s Eye Chilli (a GI-tagged, naturally fiery organic chilli grown across the state’s hill terraces), Mizo Ginger, and Turmeric. All three crops are cultivated using organic practices suited to Mizoram’s shifting hill agriculture, and the company has actively pursued sustainable farming certification pathways, including engagement with USDA National Organic Program standards, to open export-quality market access for its farmer members. This work directly supports household food security and income in some of India’s most remote and topographically difficult farming terrain.

A Transparent, Farmer-First Supply Chain

The company has built a structured procurement system designed to keep pricing transparent and payments fast: each participating village has a Community Resource Person responsible for farm-gate quality checks, weighing, and record-keeping, and commodities are aggregated at dedicated collection centres with digital tracking before processing. Payments to farmers are made directly via bank transfer, removing layers of middlemen that have historically depressed prices for hill farmers in Northeast India. Early processing relied on the Zoram Mega Food Park; the company has since been establishing its own Primary Processing Centre at the MIFCO Complex in Chhingchhip, Serchhip district, to bring more value addition in-house and closer to where the crops are grown.

Recognition

In July 2026, Ropuiliani WFPCL was honoured with the Women-Based FPO Excellence Award at the Krishi Vikram Excellence Awards, presented by the Indian Chamber of Commerce in New Delhi, in recognition of its work building a sustainable, farmer-owned food supply chain and empowering rural women across Mizoram. CEO Henry Sailo and members of the company’s all-women board of directors received the award on stage. The company has also run turmeric flag-off procurement drives, dispatching truckloads of farmer-grown turmeric from village collection points for onward processing and sale — visible, on-the-ground proof of a supply chain that genuinely moves product out of Mizoram’s hill villages rather than existing only on paper.
