Roshni Botanicals

Ayurveda, Formulated Not Borrowed

About

Roshni Botanicals, trading as HerbOcean, is a Delhi-based classical Ayurvedic skincare and haircare brand built on a formulation legacy that spans forty years. Every product is manufactured in-house at the company’s AYUSH-licensed facility (Licence DL-474 A&U) in Bawana, Delhi, following formulations rooted in classical Ayurvedic texts — the Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, and Ashtanga Hridaya — as passed down by master formulator Vaidya Shri Ram Prakash Ji.

The brand’s approach to Ayurveda is deliberately unhurried. Rather than chasing trend-driven ingredient lists, Roshni Botanicals prepares each formula using traditional processes and declares every ingredient in full on the product, with no proprietary blends hidden from the customer. The company holds Schedule-T GMP certification and ISO 9001:2015 certification, reflecting standardised manufacturing and quality-control processes applied to what remains, at its core, small-batch classical preparation rather than mass-market cosmetic manufacturing.

Products Offered

Roshni Botanicals currently manufactures nine classical Ayurvedic preparations across hair and skin care:

  • HerbOcean Hair Oil — a classical Ayurvedic hair oil formulation
  • HerbOcean Anti-Acne Roll-On — a targeted Ayurvedic acne treatment
  • Soundarya Tailam — a skin repair oil
  • Soundarya Lepa — a traditional face pack
  • Soundarya Cream — a daily Ayurvedic skin cream
  • Radiance Tailam — formulated for melasma and dark spots
  • Radiance Cream — a brightening Ayurvedic cream
  • Radiance Lepa — a companion face pack for the Radiance range

Products are formulated specifically for Indian climates and skin types, and are available directly through the brand as well as via major online marketplaces. Each product page carries the full ingredient list rather than a marketing shorthand, so a buyer can see exactly what has gone into a given oil, cream, or lepa before purchasing — a practice the brand treats as non-negotiable rather than a selling point to be highlighted only when convenient.

A Family-Continued Legacy

The brand was founded by the late Roshni, who believed classical Ayurveda should reach people prepared honestly and without shortcuts. Following her passing in October 2023, her parents have continued the work she started, treating each batch produced as a continuation of the formulation knowledge she inherited and trusted. That continuity — the same forty-year formulation lineage, the same in-house manufacturing, the same full-ingredient transparency — is what the brand has chosen to preserve rather than modernise away in pursuit of faster growth.

Running production in-house rather than through a third-party contract manufacturer is itself a deliberate choice for a brand of this scale. It means formulation decisions, ingredient sourcing, and batch quality control stay with the same small team across every product, rather than being handed off to an external factory producing for multiple unrelated brands simultaneously. For a category like classical Ayurveda, where the specific ratios and preparation sequence of a formulation carry as much weight as the ingredient list itself, that kind of continuity is difficult to replicate through outsourced manufacturing.

Why It Matters for Sustainability

Roshni Botanicals sits within India’s beauty and wellness space, but its sustainability angle is less about a single green claim and more about how it manufactures: small-batch, in-house production under a formal AYUSH licence, full ingredient disclosure with no undisclosed synthetic fillers, and reliance on classical plant-based formulation practices refined over decades rather than fast-turnaround cosmetic trends. Traditional Ayurvedic manufacturing of this kind tends to favour plant-derived ingredients, time-tested low-intervention processes, and a slower production cadence over the high-volume synthetic-heavy manufacturing common in mainstream cosmetics — a meaningfully different footprint, even without a standalone environmental management certification attached to it.

The brand operates out of Delhi, manufacturing every product at its own AYUSH-licensed facility rather than outsourcing to third-party contract manufacturers, which keeps quality control and ingredient sourcing decisions in-house from formulation through to the finished product reaching a customer’s hands.
