The Lilac Farm

A Nature-Rooted Farmstay Powered by Clean Energy and Zero Waste

About

About The Lilac Farm

The Lilac Farm is a 13-acre sustainable farmstay nestled near Somashettihalli in Bengaluru Rural, Karnataka, approximately one hour from the city of Bangalore. Founded by the mother-daughter duo Anitha Ajith and Christina Ajith, The Lilac Farm is a living example of how ordinary families can make extraordinary environmental choices — and build a thriving, community-centred sanctuary in the process.

From Dairy Farm to Vegan Farmstay

The journey of The Lilac Farm began with a personal health crisis. In 2019, Christina was diagnosed with Lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease. Her doctors advised her to stop consuming animal products and reconnect with a natural, slower way of living. Within two months, Christina and her mother Anitha transitioned fully to veganism and made the courageous decision to transform their family-owned dairy farm — which had operated for over a decade — into a vegan, nature-immersive retreat. What was once a barren piece of land is today a vibrant 13-acre farm that grows food, heals visitors, and shelters rescued animals.

Sustainable Living in Practice

The Lilac Farm is entirely powered by solar energy, making it a zero-emissions property from an electricity standpoint. Built spaces on the farm are crafted using earthen materials and locally sourced stones, creating structures that naturally regulate temperature without air conditioning. The farm operates on a zero-waste model, composting organic matter and minimising plastic use. Over 10,000 trees have been planted on the land, supporting a thriving ecosystem of birds, insects, and wildlife. The farm is a practitioner of natural farming, growing all its produce without chemical inputs — making it an authentic example of sustainable farming.

Rescued Animals and Community Care

The Lilac Farm is home to over 60 rescued animals — cows, goats, dogs, and other creatures — each saved from abuse or neglect. The farm provides them a sanctuary: a safe space for rehabilitation and a life free from exploitation. The presence of these animals gives the farmstay a distinctive character, blending ecological agriculture with compassionate animal care. For visitors — especially children — interacting with these rescued animals forms an unforgettable part of the farm experience.

Farm Produce and Artisan Beverages

The farm cultivates a wide variety of seasonal and native produce using natural farming techniques: tomatoes, chillies, capsicum, green papaya, brinjals, bananas, gooseberries, mangoes, and an array of flowers — butterfly peas, hibiscus, and lilac. From these flowers, Christina and Anitha craft handmade cocktail mixes and preservative-free soft drinks, including their signature flower drinks made from hibiscus and butterfly pea. These beverages carry the essence of the farm — pure, seasonal, and entirely free from additives.

Retreats, Wellness, and Educational Programmes

The Lilac Farm offers a range of immersive experiences designed to bring visitors closer to nature and sustainable ways of living. Health and wellness retreats, yoga retreats, corporate outings, and school programmes are all part of the farm’s calendar. School visits are particularly powerful: students discover that food does not come from a supermarket shelf but from soil, seeds, and sunlight. Corporate groups find the farm’s calm, unplugged environment restorative, offering a genuine break from screen-heavy city life. The farmstay accommodation is built from eco-materials and designed to offer comfort without compromise to the environment.

A Vision for a Greener India

The Lilac Farm represents a growing movement of farms-turned-sanctuaries in India — spaces that merge sustainable food production, conscious tourism, and ecological restoration into a single, purposeful enterprise. By choosing to list in the Prakati Green Directory, The Lilac Farm joins a community of genuine sustainability-focused businesses committed to making Karnataka — and India — greener, healthier, and more compassionate. Whether you are looking for a peaceful farm stay near Bengaluru, a yoga and wellness retreat, or simply a chance to reconnect with nature, The Lilac Farm offers a rare and authentic experience rooted in ecological values.
