India's First B Corp Certified Sustainable Bags Brand
EcoRight is an Ahmedabad-based sustainable fashion and accessories brand founded in 2017 by Nikita Barmecha and Udit Sood, both alumni of IIM Calcutta. With a mission to make sustainability stylish and accessible, EcoRight creates vibrant, functional bags and accessories that are kind to the planet without compromising on design. The brand holds the distinction of being the first B Corp Certified consumer brand in India — a certification that recognises businesses meeting the highest standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
Based in Gujarat, EcoRight has grown from a small sustainable startup into a nationally recognised brand with a loyal following of eco-conscious consumers. The brand is available across India and internationally through its own website and various retail platforms.
For EcoRight, sustainability is not a feature — it is the foundation of every decision the company makes. The brand’s sustainability approach rests on three key pillars: conscious materials, sustainable processes, and ethical manufacturing.
All products are made from 100% organic cotton — grown without harmful pesticides or synthetic fertilisers — or from rPET fabric, which is produced from recycled plastic bottles. Since its founding, EcoRight has recycled over four lakh (400,000) plastic bottles into wearable products, directly diverting significant plastic waste from landfills and oceans. The brand uses only organic and azo-free dyes and inks, and all packaging is made from post-consumer recycled plastic and recycled paper.
Manufacturing is carried out at SMETA 4 Pillar audited and Fairtrade certified facilities, which ensure fair wages, safe working conditions, gender equality, and ethical labour practices throughout the supply chain.
EcoRight is a certified B Corporation (B Corp), making it the first B Corp certified consumer brand in India. The B Corp certification is awarded by B Lab, a global non-profit, and requires businesses to meet rigorous standards across governance, workers, community, environment, and customers.
Beyond B Corp, EcoRight’s manufacturing partners hold SMETA 4 Pillar audit status, which assesses suppliers on labour, health and safety, environment, and business ethics using the globally recognised Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit framework. Fairtrade certification further confirms that producers receive fair compensation and work under dignified conditions.
These certifications make EcoRight one of the most rigorously certified sustainable fashion brands in India.
EcoRight offers a wide range of everyday carry products designed for style-conscious, sustainability-minded consumers. Their catalogue includes tote bags, crossbody bags, handbags, backpacks, fanny packs, sling bags, phone bags, lunch bags, shoe bags, cosmetic pouches, and bag charms, as well as accessories such as caps and socks. The brand also offers gifting hampers that make it easy to give sustainably.
What makes EcoRight products stand out is their blend of bold, colourful prints and practical functionality. Rather than defaulting to the dull, utilitarian aesthetic sometimes associated with eco-friendly products, EcoRight invests heavily in original design — resulting in bags that are just as likely to be chosen for their aesthetics as for their sustainability credentials.
EcoRight has built one of India’s most engaged sustainability communities on Instagram, with over 78,000 followers who are actively interested in eco-friendly living. The brand uses its platform not just to sell products, but to educate and inspire a shift toward conscious consumption — debunking sustainability myths, sharing tips for reducing waste, and celebrating milestones like the number of plastic bottles recycled.
The brand’s growth story has been covered by publications and platforms including YourStory, Upaya Social Ventures, and business media tracking India’s social enterprise ecosystem.
EcoRight exemplifies what it means to build a genuinely sustainable brand in India. From its certified supply chain and recycled materials to its role as a community builder for eco-conscious consumers, the brand delivers on its sustainability promise at every touchpoint.
