GOTS-certified sustainable intimate wear, direct-sourced organic cotton
Purely Femme is a Kolkata-based intimate wear brand redefining conscious consumption in an industry long dominated by synthetic fabrics and fast-fashion cycles. Founded by Debashis, Sangeeta, and Bharti, the brand set out to prove that premium, stylish lingerie and genuine sustainable fashion practices are not mutually exclusive. Purely Femme designs bras, panties, bikinis, nightwear, and coordinated sets that combine comfort and elegance with a supply chain built around environmental responsibility and women’s empowerment.
Purely Femme was created to shift the intimate wear category away from purely synthetic, mass-manufactured basics toward garments that respect both the wearer and the people who make them. Operating out of West Bengal, the brand has built its reputation on traceability: rather than sourcing generic “organic-labelled” fabric from intermediaries, Purely Femme works directly with certified cotton farmers to secure its raw material.
Purely Femme has backed its sustainability positioning with third-party verification rather than marketing language alone. In December 2024, the brand received GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification from International Certification & Inspection UK Ltd (ICI-UK) — one of the most rigorous organic textile standards globally, covering both ecological and social criteria across the entire supply chain. The same month, Purely Femme also earned ISO 9001:2015 certification from the International Accreditation Forum, confirming a documented quality management system across its production process. Purely Femme is additionally a member of APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority), the Government of India body that authorises and monitors organic cotton import and export — a membership that requires ongoing compliance and traceability reporting.
During the Kharif season of 2024, Purely Femme directly sourced 78 quintals of organic cotton from certified farmers in Haryana, cutting out layers of middlemen that typically obscure a garment’s true origin. This direct-sourcing model gives the brand full visibility into how its raw cotton is grown and gives farmers a fairer, more transparent route to market — an approach increasingly seen as essential to credible textile and handloom sustainability claims in India.
The Purely Femme range spans bras, panties, bikinis, nightwear, and matching sets, crafted from a mix of premium materials including certified organic cotton, satin, silk, and microfibre. The brand positions itself as body-inclusive, aiming to offer comfortable, well-made intimate wear at accessible price points rather than treating sustainable lingerie as a luxury-only category.
Consistent with its supply-chain-first approach, Purely Femme ships its products in biodegradable packaging, reducing the plastic footprint typically associated with intimate wear e-commerce, where multiple layers of packaging are the industry norm.
Beyond its own product line, Purely Femme runs grassroots outreach programmes aimed at women in marginalised communities — including sanitary napkin awareness campaigns and skill-development initiatives for female cotton-thread producers, documented as part of educational programmes in Gujarat’s Dhari district. The brand frames its mission as combining social and environmental sustainability, rather than treating them as separate initiatives.
Purely Femme products are available through Amazon.in and the brand maintains an active presence on Instagram and Facebook, where customers can browse the current collection and place enquiries directly.
